A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination is conducted by a licensed medical examiner. The term includes, but is not limited to, doctors of medicine (MD), doctors of osteopathy (DO), physician assistants (PA), advanced practice nurses (APN), and doctors of chiropractic (DC).
Drivers should note that as of May 21st. 2014, medical providers must be specially certified by the FSCMA to do DOT Physicals. If the medical provider is certified, their name will appear on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners at this website: https://nationalregistry.fmcsa.dot.gov/NRPublicUI/home.seam.
The reason for the DOT Physical Examination is to rule out any pre-existing conditions that might affect the driver’s ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle. The medical certificate that the driver receives after the exam is proof that the driver has met the medical requirements to hold a CDL. The exam helps to ensure the safety of both the CDL holders, and the public that shares the road with them.
Our website was created to help commercial drivers who need a DOT Physical to easily find NRCME providers in their area. Many of our providers also offer DOT drug tests and breath alcohol testing. Scheduling a DOT physical is now easier than ever before. Simply locate an NRCME provider in your geographic area, and click on their link. You will see their address, phone number, a detailed map of their locations, their prices and their office hours. If you have a good experience at their office, leave a review so that other drivers will see it too.
